Al-Taqwa Karate was established in 2001 by Sensei Dabash in Irving, Texas.
The school is run by trained black-belt volunteers to help our community, with all proceeds going towards one of the
local establishments. Al-Taqwa Karate took part in many tournaments, winning various prizes each year.
In 2003 Al-Taqwa Karate opened its branch in Calgary, Alberta. It is located in the SW Masjid with more than 50 students in the first month of class.
In 2006 Al-Taqwa Karate was registered as a non-profit organization under the name of Al-Taqwa Calgary Youth Association, now in a new location;
140, 5701 17th Ave. SE Calgary AB, T2E 0W3. With over than 100 students of all ages and genders.
The study of martial arts positively affects a person’s character by developing and increasing his/her confidence, self-control, self-discipline, attention-span, focus and respect level. Martial Arts are not a sport. It is not a game, nor should it be viewed only as an activity to be won. It is a physical and intellectual activity designed to promote physical, mental, and completeness of oneself.
What is Class Like?
Students practice forms containing the basic martial arts moves.
Classes consist of students of all ages and belt ranks.
Class time includes warm-up exercise, hand, foot and self-defense technique practice, and controlled sparring.
Advanced students assist junior belts for consistent technique and one-on-one training.
Who Can Join Al-Taqwa Classes?
All are invited to join the martial art classes. The fees is $ 60.00 per month for all ages and ranks.
The student should be in good health condition and of age four and above, male or female. Children of three years of age until the age of four are traind for free, must buy uniform.
